a different winery
Our wines not only offer a unique sensorial experience, they also tell the story of a region where nature and viticulture coexist in perfect harmony
They give name to our estate
birds
Quinta de Aves estate is located in the middle of a migratory path for all kinds of bird species. This creates a natural environment for them and a unique landscape where we can find more than 100 different species throughout the year. Many of these birds live around the winery, next to the vineyard and the ponds, where it is common to see them taking a bath.
This is why we decided to name our estate Quinta de Aves, which means “the house of birds”.
our secret
volcanoes
We are located in Campo de Calatrava P.D.O, an area shaped by volcanic hills, ponds, and unique soils.
Research places the most recent volcanic activity in the region at less than 10,000 years ago. This means that Campo de Calatrava is an active volcanic zone, where volcanic deposits can still be found. It is one of the three most recent volcanic regions within the Iberian Peninsula.
The soil has a very distinctive geomorphology, which imparts minerality to our grapes and, therefore, to the wines made from them.
Thus, we can say that it´s the environment what gives our wines their uniqueness.
Natural thermometer
ponds
The ponds on our estate provide not only an unbeatable landscape, but also help regulate humidity and temperature. They act as a natural thermometer, as their proximity to the vineyard hepls the conditions for grape development.
These ponds were formed as a result of volcanic activity that occurred 10,000 years ago in this very area, which is why we can refer to them as volcanic lagoons.
These wetlands not only benefit our vineyard but also the diverse wildlife that coexists with us.
climatic contrast
ALtitude
We are located at an altitude of around 700 meters. This produces a good temperature contrast between day and night, even though we are in a warm area.
The coolness of the night, in contrast with the warmth of the day, helps the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, with high intensity in both aroma and color.
protected environment
biodiversity
We pay close attention to ensure that the great diversity of flora and fauna that coexists on our estate live harmoniously alongside our work. In addition to the birds, you can find wild boar, deer, hares, bats, and even otters. The coexistence of all these species contributes and benefits the environment. This is one of the reasons we deciden to become an organic and vegan winery.
We must consider that the historical presence of volcanoes has a direct influence on the species that live in the area. The habitat of the flora and fauna is shaped by the climate, terrain, and soils, all influenced by the volcanic origin of this land.

Our treasure
the
soils
Campo de Calatrava is located near the Natural Parks of the Sierra de Andújar y Cazorla.
It is the most important area of the Iberian Peninsula in terms of recent volcanic activity. These soils are extremely special due to their unique mineralogy and geochemistry.
In addition to the unique mineralogy and geochemistry of our land, the high nickel content in these soils is an added value for vineyard cultivation. Another key factor is the altitude, ranging from 700m to 900m above sea level.
The D.O.P. recognizes the uniqueness of the Campo de Calatrava volcanic and wine-producing region, as well as the distinctiveness it brings to our wines.
The combination of volcanic soils, rich biodiversity, and a unique microclimate, creates the perfect environment for viticulture, making Campo de Calatrava´s wines stand out for their quality and uniqueness. The influence of the volcanic soil results in wines with a firm structure and distinctive minerality.
The Protected Designation of Origin Campo de Calatrava not only certifies the quality of these wines, but also protects a valuable wine-making and natural heritage.
Each bottle reflects the effort and passion of our winery, which blends traditional manual harvest techniques with innovative practices to produce wines that capture the essence of this volcanic land.
In summary, Campo de Calatrava is a wine treasure whose secret lies in its volcanic soils and exceptional natural surroundings.
